Back to Basics
Well the movie posts were fun to do, and it was really fun to see which ones ended up resonating with people, but that little project has run its course. This Tumblr is going to start being more autobiographical again, so thanks to you guys who hopped on because you enjoyed the movie posts, and if you’re no longer interested in what’s going on here, I won’t be hurt if you unfollow.
On a separate note, it’s funny how the beginning of a new year can inspire us to try to change things that we’ve decided we don’t like about ourselves. What is it about the resetting of the seasons that convinces us to change? I get the whole “clean slate” idea, but at what point do we judge the previous year and decide we are unhappy with it? To what are we comparing our lives? Books? Movies? Other people?
There’s an episode of How I Met Your Mother (bear with me) called “Dopplegangers,” and while on the surface it’s just another episode of a pretty good sitcom, beneath that is a very apt sentiment about how we change as we grow older. The show is streaming on netflix now, so if you can I’d recommend watching it.
Mentally, I seem to view myself exactly the same as I have my entire life (thus far), but I know that I’m different, I know I’ve changed. This year, I want to get to know who I’ve become. Maybe if I don’t like what I see, I can change it next January.
